Computing Explained realises that the
ADSL/Broadband market is large and confusing. With more than 200 Internet
Service Providers (ISPs), it is becoming increasing difficult to discover the
right solution for your business. ADSL lines are often bundled with other
services, for example mobile telephones, which can just increase the confusion
and frustration as to which deal offers the best benefits overall.
Most people think that Broadband is all about speed, download limits and cost.
Unfortunately, it is not that straight-forward and it depends greatly on how you
and your business use your ADSL connection. For example, if you have a number of
small satellite offices that all access a head office system, then a standard
ADSL line might not be sufficient or efficient enough. You may also be
considering the benefits of Voice Over IP (VoIP) to replace your current
analogue telephone system, but you must ensure that your ADSL connection has
good upload speeds and is resiliant enough for this application.
With the advent of new technologies like Mobile Broadband (3G) and Wireless
Broadband, it is possible to gain access to the internet, and therefore access
to office computer systems, from a variety of locations. Establishing the best,
most efficient and secure use of these cutting-edge technologies within your
organisation is a challenge.

Once you have obtained your ADSL connection you must also consider all of the
security aspects of this type of communication and the purposes for which it is to
be used. Due to modern speeds and the variety of ways to gain internet access
means that security needs to be high on the agenda.
Most ISPs offer email anti-virus and anti-spam filtering with varying degrees of
success and features for customising the solution. This should be the minimum
level of security that you think about. On-site server and client anti-virus and
anti-spam solutions are necessary to protect you against all
viruses, trojans, spyware, phising and hacking. Firewalls are also essential in
order to protect your whole organisation from various threats.
All laptops that leave the office and any PC that connects to your back-office
systems must be secure. It is often a weak link, and the damage that a poorly
protected off-site PC can cause to the whole business can be catastrophic.
Computing Explained believes that if you are
reviewing your ADSL connection, then secuity issues must be reviewed at the same
time. It is often the case that businesses obtained their anti-virus years previously,
renew the annual subscriptions and believe they are still fully protected.
Unfortunately, this lack of attention to security detail leaves your business
open to attack.

For a small one-off introductory fee, Computing Explained
will discuss your ADSL and security requirements and then scour the market for
solutions that best match your business needs.
We do not just review the well-known and popular ISPs, for example BT and
Tiscali, as there are many small and specialised ISPs that can provide a service
that suits your requirements and has superior customer support. We have no
affiliations with any ISP, so our advice is independent and impartial.
Computing Explained will monitor the
installation/migration for you and keep you regularly updated as to the progress
of the project. This effectively means that you do not have to deal with lengthy
calls to ISP helpdesks in order to resolve any issues that may arise, you simply
call us.
This may seem an expensive way to obtain ADSL, but the cost difference between
the most expensive and the cheapest can be as large as £200 per annum. Choosing
the wrong ISP can leave you with a 12 month contract for an ADSL line that can
restrict your business potential with a lack of flexibility.
The benefits are:
- You maintain a single point of contact for all IT related issues.
- A personal level of service with a company that already knows your business and
the importance of your ADSL connection.
- Expert and stress-free ADSL provisioning.
